The Skill Development Programme in Bengal is being rolled out in collaboration with the PNB Housing & Finance Ltd,(PNBHFL) ,under its CSR initiative. The PNBHFL is CREDAI’s skilling partner and has so sponsored the training for more than 5000 construction workers already in Mumbai & other parts of Maharashtra, the NCR region, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chattisgrah, Kerala, Karnatka, AP &Telegana. Under the present programme the Bank has agreed to sponsor skilling of 1000 construction workers in Bengal. Under this programme skilling of the 450 workers is being rolled out now across 7 sites. Besides what is significant is that for the first time CREDAI is undertaking skilling at source at off-site centres i.e. at places from where the construction labour is traditionally sourced. Hence one batch each of 30 unemployed youth are being trained in Plumbing & Masonry at Mednipur&Mushidabad respectively. The labour so trained will be engaged at construction sites of members of CREDAI Bengal thus completing the forward and backward linkages and achieving the intent of the programme as was envisioned by the H’ble Prime Minister of India-that the industry itself comes forward as a training Partner and skills the unemployed youth to fill its need gaps& then engages them in the industry.
